Genre-defying Japanese quartet CHAI well and truly won us over last year with their incredible debut album Pink. Their brand new single ‘Fashionista’ arrives alongside news of the Heavenly Recordings signees’ second album Punk and we’re finding it hard to contain our excitement. Intended as a rejection of outdated Japanese associations surrounding women and kawaii (cuteness) Punk’s lead track is bursting with attitude. Pairing funky bass with fizzy open hi-hats and melodic guitar lines, ‘Fashionista’ is a celebration of individuality, The band explain, “Even if you don’t dress or do your makeup like how society expects you to, you’re still a “Fashionista” by expressing yourself how you want to. You decide what you want to wear, how you want to look, what you don’t want to wear, and that is what makes you a Fashionista!” Punk will arrive on the 15th of March. -Holly Mullineaux
